Assam Violence

In India it is well said, “AHINSA PARMA DHARMA”, but is this really so? Nowadays all is happening contrary to it. The violence eruption is the result of ethnic, political, communal or sometimes economic conflicts. India got independence on August 15, 1947 after dividing geographically and demographically into two parts- India and Pakistan. Some people acceded to India while some to Pakistan. Even today, after 65 years of independence, the violence continuously ruining the life of innocent people. Perhaps, it is not a cup of tea of both the nations to resolve these conflicts. These kind of conflicts are blot on the face of one’s country. As I think, the major reason behind these conflicts is “Religion”. Religion is the power that binds the people of particular community and encouraged the people to remain together. But what happens when this religion becomes the cause of conflicts?

Today, we are living in a secular country. But does secularism really prevail in our country? Even today, some of the castes are considered to be not fit to touch with a barge pole even after Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, who was considered “untouchable” proved himself as a legend.

Indo-Bangladesh conflict is a conflict in which two communities Bodos and Muslims conflicted with each other for their livelihood and somewhat due to demographics. Although this conflict is for the improper partitioning of land but the conflict of religion also prevail there. In Indo-Pakistan, 1971 war, after the creation of Bangladesh, the government of India (GOI) provides grasslands to the Muslim “illegal” immigrants to support them and send all the victims of East Pakistan or East Bengal to the relief camps. But based on what evidence the GOI provide them all these lands and make the local community deprive of their lands? Why the then district administrators allow Muslim immigrants to illegally grab their lands? There is no major evidence found regarding this. The Muslim illegal immigrants in collusion with the local authorities grabbed the lands. This engendered the major conflicts between Bodos and Muslim immigrants which India even today has to face. Not only Indian government, the Bangladesh Government is equally responsible for conflicts. The Bangladesh government now denies the existence of illegal migrants in India and describes them as “trafficked”.

Nearly 3-4 million such people are living in India. But the question is that are all they “trafficked”? Bangladesh govt. is escaping from providing these people their revenue. During the formation of Bangladesh, if the East Bengalis belong to Pakistan, then why Pakistan govt. refused to provide them appropriate revenue? Now they are seeking help from India. It is not the matter of conflict between India and Bangladesh. It is a matter of conflict between East Pakistan and West Pakistan. India has no role to play in all these issues. But the fingers are also pointing towards Indian Government. If the government provided them land at that time then why didn’t the GOI make provisions for deporting them to their countries? Now the result of these conflicts is that total 11 out of 27 districts in Assam are
under the Muslim community which is illegal as considered by local communities. Why didn’t the government take necessary steps to resolve these conflicts at the time of their beginning ? Is this only because of the poor administration or any other reasons behind these questions prevail? Plethora of Questions, but nobody has answers.

Now, the necessary steps should be taken by government for Muslim illegal immigrants and Bodos so that these conflicts may not recur from time to time and place to place. Necessary negotiations should take place between Government of India and People’s Republic of Bangladesh. If the Government of Bangladesh still does not insist to accept their people back then only for the sake of humanity, Government of India should make different states and the land issues can be solved by providing necessary compensation to the victims. Nearly 4, 00,000 people got displaced during these conflicts and nearly 77 people were killed. The government is now providing shelters to these people under various schemes like Prime Minister National relief fund and Indra Awaas Yojana. One major culprit in this case is also the election commission of India. Why do the election commission not resolve the issue of default voters which are nearly 1.5 million? The problems of the doubtful voters should be tackled while preparing electoral polls of Assam. The armies should be deployed on time in case such conflicts occur. Even today, the Indo-Bangladesh borders are not properly guarded. So these borders should have proper boundaries and engineering techniques should be used to properly safeguard the borders as was done by Israel in the past. The need of the hour is that the government should take necessary steps to make deportation of the illegal migrants instead of becoming a “lame duck” as it was doing till now. If the government won’t resolve these conflicts then these will recur from time to time and place to place.

Best of all times

We live in a perfect world. This message does not normally hit our ears these days. Rather what is heard all the time is that we are living in a grim economic situation, we are living in an age of terror, Earth is getting warmer, we are running out of water and other vital resources, a billion people are trapped in terrible poverty globally. But this is not exactly the case.

Let us just go through some very positive points. First of all the world is largely at peace. The richest and the powerful countries in the world are not in a geopolitical competition with one another, or fighting wars, engaging in arms race or cold wars. This is a historical rarity. Similar period of peace was hundreds of years ago.

Whenever we hear of a terror attack we indeed think that we are living in dangerous times but going by the facts the number of people who have died as a result of world wars, civil wars and yes terrorism has gone down since the past years. The political stability that the world has experienced has created a very powerful economic system in which the countries are flourishing.

Going by the facts in1980 the number of countries growing at 4% a year (a robust growth) were around 60. By 2007 it has already doubled. According to UN, poverty has been reduced greatly in the last 50 years. Life expectancy has increased dramatically. All this is because of rising standards of living, hygiene and medicine.

Just take a look at our laptops, cell-phones and other gadgets. Doesn't the advancement speak for itself that we have come a long way. Moreover there are so many projects and products, which are yet in their infancy.

The good news just goes on and on. Colleges have increased, the number of college graduates has increased greatly, and women have been empowered massively.

We have had daunting tasks over the last years, Wars, economic crisis, diseases (remember H1N1 and how we fought against it). We reacted, we responded and solved the problem. We are indeed living in a perfect world. All we need is to just not screw everything up!

The Road to OLYMPICS-2020

When Vijay Kumar hit bull’s eye and Sushil Kumar brought a revival in the ancient sport of wrestling, it ushered a hope that indeed we can be a sporting nation!

The London Olympics 2012 was a varied experience for India. We had reasons to celebrate, lessons to learn and issues to discuss. While the infamous sports witnessed glory like never before the Indian hockey seemed battling a major crisis.

The medal numbers are best in the country’s Olympic history but have we reached the pinnacle of our sporting abilities or are we at the threshold of a peak to be scaled!!!

The sports minister hopes a medal count of 25 by 2020.But everything comes at a price and to realise this dream we need sheer hard work, determination and dedication.

The foremost thing besides all is that we the people need to change our mindset towards sports. Largely we still not regard sports as a profession or pay our sportsmen their due respect. We do appreciate our players occasionally but we don’t support them wholeheartedly.

Olympics are not a test of skill it is a test of the person and the charachter. And you build Olympians over years and not months. It starts from nurturing talents at a young age. We must promote children with sporting aptitudes and not merely condemn them as mischievous and rebelling.

The institutional efforts have been effective superficially, we need to ensure that we penetrate deeper and reach out more.

The infrastructure facilities need immediate notice. We shouldn’t spend all the funds in building one art-of-class sports centre and concentrate all the efforts at one point, rather we need to diversify  our efforts, so we reach out to a larger number. Had all the cash prizes and rewards that were declared post Olympics, been declared earlier, they could have done wonders. We need to improve our preparedness. We can’t wait idly till 2018 and expect wonders in 2020. We need to start today and work concretely towards the goal.

Let’s not miss this ace from Saina Nehwal and jab and grab from Mary Kom.Lets kindle this spark into a fire. Let’s make India rise as a sporting nation.

Discover the Power in the Inner You !

Who are you on this very day? A face in the crowd? A person occupying space amongst the seven billion people in this world. We all call ourselves unique. Don’t we?  What is it in you that makes you unique? Your skills, your personality, your behaviour, your fame?

Well let’s learn to discover ourselves. To know what we are, to know what we deserve, what we are capable of. To explore, discover and pursue your aims and goals in life. To hold the strength in our hearts. We enhance our capabilities today, to become something in tomorrow’s date. We were all born free and we shall all die free. In the journey what we do with the life we have is what matters. Bill Gates has said,”If you are born poor, it’s not your fault. But if you die poor, it’s entirely your fault.” Not talking in terms of money specifically here, but about achieving something in life and the risks associated with it. By risks I mean Calculated Risks.

When you would reach the age of sixty, you shouldn’t be regretting the way you lead your life or for that matter where you stand that day. You must be proud of the legacy that you are about to leave behind. The crave that lies within you to Explore, Achieve, and establish better landmarks in life must never die. One should always have that “Big Aim” which we dream of in our mind. In the process you shall discover the inner you.

Being true to ourselves, being proud about ourselves , Loving ourselves are components or elements that keep that faith going. Loving our own selves is what this generation doesn’t know of. Broaden your mentality .Spread your thoughts. Let them roam, wander and explore the beauty of what you hold inside. The power to change the way this world works. “If you try to achieve something with all your heart and soul into it, the entire universe conspires to help you achieve it.” A few words from Paulo Coelho’s ‘The Alchemist’.

Life is about thinking Big, Dreaming Bigger and achieving what we deserve. It is only when we feel that we believe .Life is always unexpected. Still beautiful. We meet many people in our daily life. Some make a mark. Many don’t. Friends we make in the journey of our life soon become the reason for our existence .Appreciate the beauty and honesty of friendship.  Your  friends are the ones who tell you who you really are and help you strive through the journey of your goal in life.

The world today has broadened. Much farther than we humans could have possibly imagined of. Opportunities lie on our finger tips. Grab Them. Broaden the spectrum of the way you see life. Limits have taken definition beyond what sky is!

THANK YOU DEAR TEACHERS!!!!

Thank you dear teachers for giving us a sound sleep during lectures,

Thank you for allowing proxies without any concerns.

Thank you for giving us TA’s we can manipulate,
For allowing us in class even when we are late.

Thank you for accepting copied assignments,
Flooding ip with loads of comments.

Thank you for making our labs next to hell,
Three hours in them are like years in a jail.

Life is stuck between delta and epsilon,
Multiplexers are always a confusion.

Thank you for challenging our decision of engineering,
For tempting us to do everything except studying.

Whole of the semester you are quite and calm,
But on exam days we see your real charm.

You feel so proud on seeing our sad faces,
As if you have taken all your revenges.

Still we respect you for your dedication,
For listening our doubts with full attention.

For giving lectures to an almost empty class,
And caring even for the guy who comes last.

Thank you for making us know what college is,
For letting us know what is studying with ease.

We love you, respect you, that’s all we say,

LNMIIT wishes you a
HAPPY TEACHERS DAY!!!!!
